Where are the ads?
There are over 800 different collectible categories like, Action Man, Zeroids, Barbie or Pez
Dispensers.
These categories are divided into groups like Dolls, Antiques, Toys etc. This
helps manage the large number of categories.
The groups are divided by Collectibles and Non-Collectibles.
This all becomes a bit more confusing because there are two ways to view ads at The Big Red
Toybox. You can use the original html browsing method or the
new cgi browser that doesn't work for WebTV users.
Some of the categories don't have ads in them, especially for more obscure toys like
Peteena, Mini-Martians or Show Biz Babies. The ads get about 20 viewings for every
post. This means if you are looking for something to buy, you are better served by
placing a Want to Buy ad rather than waiting for the item to show up.
What are the Rules?
No fraudulent posts.
No offensive language.
No Free Mail without a registered password.
Keep your ad to 3 or 4 lines maximum.
Place only 1 ad per section per day.
(Section referers to the minor categories like GI Joe and Barbies not the major groups like Dolls or Toys.)
You must use your real name, first name or a nick name.
Do not use any HTML code other than links in the ads.
Do not place ads in unrelated categories.
Do not place ads slandering other collectors.
Ad will be purged automatically every 10-14 days.
What could happen if I don't follow the rules?
You could be banned from using the Free Classifieds and the Flea Market.
What can I do to protect myself from fraud?
The rules for posting classifieds are the first step in protecting you from getting ripped off.
Be very cautious when dealing with people using free E-MAIL accounts. It's very tempting for crooks.
Ask around before making a deal. Someone somewhere has done a deal with this person.
Avoid users who abuse The BRTB classifieds. If they are willing to use the ads fraudulently why wouldn't they cheat you?
Avoid buyers/sellers/trades who won't post at least their first name with their ad.
Use the Escalate program to help close stalled transactions.
Use the Good Joe program when you have completed a successful transaction.
How do I use the SEARCH function?
SEARCH does not read the contents of the ads. It will show you the correct category to find what you are looking for.
Enter in the name of the item you are looking for.
You can also enter in the name of the manufacturer of the item.
SEARCH won't work with colors, age, years or nicknames.
Instead of typing Barbie Dream House just type Barbie
If your item is not found check the spelling and use of spaces.
If your item is not consider rephrasing.
Examples of SEARCH syntax:
GI Joe
Mego
Football
Beanie
Hasbro
Cabbage Patch Kids
Star Trek
My ad keeps getting rejected.
Make sure that you do not have any spaces in your E-MAIL name.
AOL users must include @AOL.COM at the end of your E-MAIL name.
You can't post in a section if have an old ad that is still the most current ad in that section.
HOTMAIL, JUNO and YAHOO users cannot register or place ads.
You can't use HOTMAIL, JUNO and YAHOO in the text of your message.
If you have abused the policies at the BRTB you will be blocked from using the ads without warning.
I can't see the ad I just posted.
If the program told you that your ad was posted AND it won't let you repost it then it's there.
Try RELOAD or REFRESH to replace the old version in your computer's cache.
